Indie Yesterday Episode 4

ride

Alright, let’s get started with our fourth episode of Indie Yesterday. Today we will be discussing the band Ride. These guys were a band from the UK in the early 90’s where they released four albums. Mark Gardener and Andy Bell wrote the songs for the band. The band could be categorized as a northern soul band. What is northern soul you ask? This is a more mid-tempo style music from soulful bands from England. One of the more popular bands that was listed as northern soul would be The Verve.

Today I’m going to mainly focus on one of their albums, Carnival of Light. This was the third album for the band to release. This is a very well written album. It should have had a much more popular album. The band had one thing that slowed them down. The album was released at the same time as another album that turned out to be huge in the UK at the time. This was Oasis’s debut album, Definitely Maybe. Carnival of Light drowned in the wake of that album.
