The XX

Right now I’d say that these guys are arguably the best new band of the year. Yeah, I know that’s saying a lot, especially with The Pains… being in the mix. The Pains are a really good band, don’t get me wrong. They’re definitely in the hunt as well. But I’ve found myself listening to The XX a lot more than The Pains. I guess I’m into that minimal, dark sound of theirs. I’m sure I’ll put out a best of 2009 at the end of the year. You’ll have to hold out until then to hear my official call but right now it’s leaning to The XX. They’re impressing me a lot right now with their ability to use hip hop beats and make it goth. I hate hip hop but it works with them.

VCR is the song on the video. It’s probably my favorite from the album. You’ll have to lower the sound on the video. It’s way too loud and starts to distort, but besides that it’s a good example of the band. I also put up a remix the band did. If you hunt down the original, you’ll be pretty impressed with the remix. It’s nothing like the original.
